 2016 Preview 


       East Limestone completed the 2015 season with a 8-3 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 5A region eight, the Indians earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. East Limestone's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Hayden by a score of 19-0.

       Since 2010, East Limestone has gone a combined 37-28. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 5A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, East Limestone has managed to compile a record of 158-122. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 5A and 119th in the AHSAA.

       The Indians are led by head coach Jeff Pugh who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 63-48 over the past ten seasons at East Limestone. Under his direction the Indians have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won one region crown with Coach Pugh.

       Coach Pugh's overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 94-80 (54.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Pugh's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won two region championships.

       If East Limestone can win six games this season, Coach Pugh will reach the 100 win milestone.

       The East Limestone Indians will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2016 season. The Indians have one of the toughest schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 60-42 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 5A and 52nd in the AHSAA.

       The Indians should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Indians open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent West Limestone on Thursday, August 25 at East Limestone Stadium. Last year the West Limestone Wildcats finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in third place in Class 4A region eight. The Wildcats lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Cordova by a score of 39-7.

       East Limestone and West Limestone have met a total of 52 times on the football field. The Indians have a 26-26-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2015 with West Limestone winning by a score of 26-6.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
